With no National League fixtures this weekend I’ve attempted to quench my thirst for value bets by getting stuck into some analysis of the best A-League matches due to be played between Friday and Sunday.
Adelaide vs Sydney
Friday night sees Adelaide take on Sydney at home and their overall records in the A-League this season could not be much more different with Sydney having lost one of their nine matches and Adelaide having won just one of their nine.
Sydney have been a strong proposition away from home dating back to the start of last season and had won ten road matches on the bounce before being held to a draw in Perth recently.
Adelaide have a strong recent record against the Sydneysiders, however, winning four of the last six meetings with them.
Adelaide gained creditable draws against Western Sydney and Melbourne Victory at home earlier in the season and have improved a bit since then and with Sydney’s great run of away form having come to an end in Perth I can see this being a tight, either a 0-0 or with one team nicking it 1-0.
On their overall records this match looks like it should be a close one with both teams having won four of their nine games so far this term, with Brisbane on 15 points to Wellington’s 14.
Wellington have improved at the back in their last couple of games, keeping clean sheets against Sydney away and then again in their 2-0 victory over Melbourne Victory last week.
Brisbane were a tad unlucky not to come away with something from their match in Western Sydney last week when they played well for the most part but that loss which followed draws against Melbourne City and Newcastle cannot have filled the Roar with confidence going into this fixture.
There should be goals, with 13/20 Roar matches versus middle third teams going over 2.5 goals while Wellington’s last 20 away games have seen 14 go over 2.5.
Rather than take the safer option of an odds on wager on over 2.5 goals we’ll take a punt on the Phoenix getting more than their fair share while taking the draw out of the equation.

Western Sydney vs Melbourne Victory
The A – League match of the season so far takes place in Western Sydney on Saturday night when the rejuvenated Wanderers welcome the reigning champs, Melbourne Victory, to the Piratek Stadium.
The Wanderers have surprised everyone with their open brand of football this season and it’s certainly working for them as they are on a run of six straight wins, scoring a dozen times in the process.
Victory have been no slouches either, winning four of their last six, scoring 11 times. Their loss to Wellington last week can be partially excused due to the state of the pitch.
Melbourne have had a grip on this fixture recently, winning the last four with scorelines of 3-0, 2-1, 4-1 and 3-1. The last time WSW got the better of the match up was in round six of the 13/14 season.
I think we should expect goals. Both teams have scored 14 times in nine games this season and both have seen four of the last five go over 2.5 goals, while as we can see from the recent results of the fixture there have been 15 goals in the last four matches between the two sides.
It’s a tough task picking a winner here although I would slightly favour a Victory victory if i had to pick one result to save my life.
