Freo welcome Port Adelaide to Patersons Stadium for their season opener in what should be a fascinating match up. Port were brilliant for much of 2014 and showed their class by coming back from a mid season wobble to miss out on making the Grand Final by less than a goal.
Port beat Freo twice in 2014, in round 8 at Adelaide Oval and in their semi final at today’s venue. Sandwiched between the wins was a defeat to Freo in round 23.
I lean towards Port getting 3.5 points but the best value, as often when Fremantle are involved, is to go under the points total.
I would not try to dissuade anyone from betting under 172.5 with Hills but on balance i prefer the 1st quarter market, with the likelihood of Ross Lyon looking to keep things very tight as per usual.
Port went 3/9 o/u in 1st quarters away from Adelaide in 2014 while Freo were 4/10 in day and twilight matches.
All three opening periods of the meetings last year went under 42.5.
