The two best teams from the home and away season meet in the Grand Final and with Buddy Franklin’s move from Hawthorn to Sydney shortly after he helped the Hawks win last year’s Grand Final, this is the match-up most neutrals would have picked at the start of the year.
Franklin has lived up to all the hype since his move and he is undoubtedly the most influential forward in the game. He can change the course of a match with a few touches of brilliance as well as kick goals and take contested marks inside 50.
The midfield is where this match will be won and lost, however, and that’s where we’ll be going in our quest to find the winner of the Norm Smith Medal.
I’ve been talking up Luke Parker for this but so has every other Tom, Dick and Harry and his odds of $9 offers little value.
Josh Kennedy is a worthy joint favourite with Franklin at $8 but we’ll look at a couple of long priced midfielders for each side in the hope of snagging a nice return.
There have been 21 Grand Finals since 1994 with the 2010 Final replayed after a drawn match between Collingwood and St Kilda.
Ten of the 21 had 200+ points scored in them and the average winning margin was 36 points.
