I’m still shaking my head after going for Aniban Lahiri over Abraham Ancer in the Aussie Open when Ancer ticked every box in the stats i was looking at.
The Australian PGA Championship is once again from RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
Royal Pines is a par 72 tree lined parkland course with water and bunkers the main dangers.
Any style of golfer can win around here but there is a preference for accuracy and GIR over power.
Around 40% of the market is taken up with the front three in the betting: Leishman is $6, as is Cam Smith and Harold Varner is $10. Varner is the most tempting of the three but i’m happy to leave them all out.
I put up Sean Crocker at $67 and $5 top US on Twitter (@oddy_oddy_oddy) but the price has gone now and he’s $41 and $4 so the appeal has waned a little. He has 5 top 5’s in his last 9 starts on the Challenge Tour.
Our first bet is on Spaniard Adrian Otaegui, the world number 69. He has been in good form on the European Tour with his last three finishes T4, T16 ad T3 and last week’s T4 at the DP World Tour Championship when he was in contention deep into Sunday an excellent showing.
1 unit Otaegui on Betfair at $29
Jordan Zunic shot 65 in round two in the Australian Open after winning the Queensland Open the week before. He faded over the weekend but will relish the return to Royal Pines where he was beaten in a playoff by Cam Smith last year.
1 unit Zunic on Betfair at $90
Two other bets at decent odds are on Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston at $130 and Dimi Papadatos at $95 for one unit each.
