Our two big priced DNB selections lost by a single goal on Tuesday but we can count ourselves a little unlucky not to have got something out of at least one of those matches with Dartford having more shots on target than Bristol Rovers and Telford having almost twice as many shots as Forest Green.

BRISTOL CITY v CHESTERFIELD

Bristol City

P11, W7, D4, L0

Home: P5, W4, D1, L0

Form: P6, W4, D2, L0

  • Bristol City are 4 points clear at the top of L1
  • They are undefeated in their last seventeen L1 matches
  • They have averaged 13.2 shots and 5.2 shots on target conceding 9.2 and 3.6
  • 34 yr old forward Aaron Wilbraham has scored seven times in 11 games, the best scoring run of his career. He did not get much of a look in at Norwich and Crystal Palace but at L1 level he’s a clear threat.
  • City have outshot their opponents at home in 3 of their five games, losing the shot count once.
  • They have had more shots on target in three of the five games.
  • They might have been slightly fortunate to get all three points in their last home fixture against MK Dons as they lost the shot, shot on target and corner counts.

Chesterfield

P10, W5, D3, L2

Away: P5, W2, D2, L1

Form: P6, W3, D2, L1

  • Chesterfield are in 6th position in the table, seven points behind Bristol City with a game in hand.
  • They have averaged 12.8 shots and 5 shots on target away from home, conceding 12.8 and 5.8
  • They have out shot their opponents in two of their five away games and have also had more shots on target in two of the five.
  • In 26 yr old striker Eoin Doyle they have the only player with more goals this season than Wilbraham. Doyle has scored 12 of Chesterfield’s 21 League 1 goals.

Verdict:

Chesterfield are worth chancing to be the first team to beat Bristol City this season. Bristol City beat L2 side Cheltenham in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in the week but before that  looked a bit vulnerable in their last few league matches.
