The new school take on the old guard in group E when Belgium play Italy. The Belgium squad is crammed full of talented players with experience at the back in Spurs duo Thomas Vermaelen and Jan Vertonghen, creativity in midfield with Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard and speed, power and goals up from from Romelu Lukaku and Christian Benteke.
Italy come into the tournament with what is perceived to be the weakest squad they’ve had at their disposal for a major tournament in living memory but have probably the most tactically aware coach and a rich tradition in making the semi finals at least in major competitions.
So do we go with the young and talented Belgians or the team with the winning tournament record in the Italy?
I just have to plump for Belgium as injuries have robbed Italy of their first choice centre midfielders which could well leave holes for one of my favourite players to watch, Kevin De Bruyne, to exploit.
