Our run of poor luck continued last week when our win bet finished 2nd(J Senden) and our top five bet finished 6th (R Green). We can’t get much closer and I feel a couple of huge weeks are just around the corner.

Don’t abandon ship just yet!

The big news this week at the Australian Open is the return of Jordan Spieth to Sydney to defend the title he won by about a gazillion shots last year in what turned out to be the start of an amazing run of form for the young American which eventually saw him as the number one ranked player in the world and US Masters champion.

Spieth is going to be hard to beat so with a couple of firms having priced up the event without Spieth or Adam Scott we’ll be looking there and at the top 10 market for value this week.

Peter Uihlein is destined for the very top echelons of the sport and he, like his good friend Brooks Koepka, has given himself the best possible chance to do so by becoming a member of the European Tour before taking on the US PGA version.

Uihlein is a big hitter averaging over 300 yards driving for the last three years while the big improvement has been his iron play with GIR % up to 72% in 2015 from 65% last year. He should be well suited to this course.

Brett Rumford is on the comeback trail from a nasty illness picked up in South Africa which saw him having a chunk of his small intestine removed. Ouch.

Romford finished 3rd in this event last year and his 6th in last week’s Masters showed that he’s in solid form.

Veteran Aussie Richard Green battled well last week to tie with Rumford for 6th and he’s definitely worth another chance at his current odds. His last three finishes at the track read: 5, 26 and 15.

Bryson DeChambeau raised a few eyebrows last week with his flat cap and ‘one size fits all’ clubs but his golf was also eye catching and this US Amateur champion can run them all close this week.

Nathan Holman was 10th here last year and, as I said in last week’s preview, I’m a big fan. He had a shocker in round three last week after doing really well to get to a tie for 2nd after the second round. He can surprise a few here.

Rod Pampling has been in good form this year and he simply loves it here with recent form figures at the track of 3, 7 and 2.
