Golf: European Masters

We got a full place return on our $61 pick David Lipsky last week and for a long time in round four it looked like he’d get in a playoff at the very least. Some great golf by budding superstar Thomas Pieters saw us off in end, however.

This week we’ve got the European Masters at the beautiful Crans Sur Sierre course in Switzerland. Apart from the obvious ones like St Andrews and Pebble Beach this is one of the tracks that is very much on my bucket list to hack around and shoot 100+ at some point before i cark it.

It’s a great test of all round golfing skills at a tree lined sub 7,000 yards. Par 3’s play a big part as there are five of them and they are all on the long side.

Course form has been a good indicator here in previous years so all our picks have a good finish here in the books.

Matt Fitzpatrick will make his Ryder Cup debut next month and he’s a player destined for the big time if he can stay level headed over the next few years. He was 2nd here last year and I like him to go one better. He finished 5th two weeks ago which sealed his Ryder Cup spot so is in good form despite a missed cut last week.

David Lipsky is in great form, 3rd last week and 6th the week before. He won here in 2014 so must be on everyone’s short list this week. We are no different.

Alejandro Canizares‘s game is well suited to this type of test and this view is backed up by his solid record here. He has a top 10 and a top 5 finish in his last four starts here. He has not teed it up for 4 three weeks but that should not worry us as he was off the same spell when 8th in his last event on tour.

Skeeter’s Aussie to follow off a cliff is Aaron Baddeley. Mine is Brett Rumford

He’s a five time European Tour winner and I think his form is better than it appears on paper. He shot 70 in the opening round last week in Denmark  having got the worst of the draw and he has solid course form. He won the event in 2007 and his last three finishes at Crans Sur Sierre read 19, 15 and 13.
