A disappointing final round for us last week after looking set for a great result with both Matt Kuchar and Tim Clark bang in contention for three rounds. We got paid the place part for Kuchar’s tied  3rd but it could have been so much better. Onwards and upwards.

The PGA Tour hits the West Coast of America for the first of five tournaments in this part of the world, known as the west coast swing.

This event is played on three courses:

  • Palmer Course at PGA West (this will be used for the final round)

  • Nicklaus Course at PGA West

  • La Quinta

All three courses are easy and will give up lots of birdies. The pin positions in the first three rounds are very accessible because each of the 156 professionals plays with an amateur partner for those rounds.

Big priced winners are the order of the day in this event with no winner under $67 in the last 10 years. If you fancy a 200/1 chance, back it!

Justin Thomas was the number one player on the Web.com tour in 2014 and big things are expected from him in his rookie year on the PGA Tour. He played this event last year and showed great promise with a 64 in round two and looks to be in fine form after a t6th at the Sony Open which included a 61 in round two.

Thomas is a very good putter and this should stand him in good stead this week.

Jason Kokrak shot rounds of 67, 69, 64 and 70 at the Sony Open to finish tied for 17th and he was ranked 2nd in strokes gained putting at the event. He is a long driver of the golf ball, averaging over 300 yards per drive so the five easy par fives on the Palmer Course should be right up his street.

Kokrak finished 8th in this event in 2013 and he should be confident of bettering that this week.

Scott Piercy is a player I like to get with when he starts hitting a bit of form and he certainly did that last week where he had just four bogies in the whole tournament when shooting 67, 67, 66 and 66.

He is the price he is due to missing his last three cuts in this event but he is good value in his current form.

Charley Hoffman has three top ten finishes here from seven starts and won  on debut in 2007. He also won in November at the OHL Classic and showed he retained his good form with a t14 at the Tournament of Champions recently where he shot a very good 66 in round two that could have been better but for a double bogey on the back nine which followed seven birdies in eight holes.
