Our $91 pre tournament tip Martin Kaymer takes a one shot lead into the weekend at TPC Sawgrass with Jordan Spieth and Russell Henley his closest challengers.
In the ‘After The Cut’ section we’ll take a look at how the players in contention have fared when in similar positions in the past.
Kaymer has won once in 73 starts on the PGA Tour and 10 in 169 starts on the European Tour. Kaymer has led seven times after the cut on all tours and won four of those tournaments. Only once did he slip out of the top two, and those numbers are rock solid.
Spieth has won once in his 44 appearances on the PGA Tour.
The 20 year old has been in the top three on the leaderboard eight times on all tours and, surprisingly, only went on to win one of those. On five of the eight occasions he moved backwards between the ends of round two and round 3. His experience in contention at the Masters this year should help him if he’s in the mix on Sunday.
Henley has won twice in his 42 appearances on the PGA Tour.
He’s been in the top three five times going into round three and converted to victory an impressive four times (two on the Web.com tour).
At current Betfair prices of Kaymer: $3.90, Spieth: $2.96, Henley: $25 if i was betting right now i’d be backing Henley and laying Spieth. If you took our advice of backing Kaymer at $91 i wouldn’t put you off laying back double your stake at the current odds.
