The WGC Matchplay is on – great to watch, terrible to bet on in my experience although i do seem to recall backing Geoff Ogilvy one year when he won it. It should suit Rory’s in and out game to a tee but we’ll see if the golf genius/lunatic that is Skeeter comes up with anything.
Over in Puerto Rico we have a PGA Tour event that usually throws up a bit of value and at this point I could go into a spiel about San Juan, Puerto Rico, rolling dice for shots of (warm) tequila and throwing up like a champion…but I won’t.
The track in PV is the Coco Beach Golf and Country Club and it’s a horses for courses situation. It tends to fit some players’ eyes and not others while an ability to play in the cross winds is a significant advantage.
Scott Brown should always be on our radar in these weaker PGA Tour events and with two top 10’s in his last three starts and a win here in 2013 which followed a 5th place the year before i’m all over him like a cheap suit.

I missed the 40/1 about big George Coetzee but the 33/1 is still plenty big enough. If he’d played the track once and made the top 10 he’d be favourite. He won five weeks ago and should be OK in the wind coming from South Africa.

Derek Fathauer does not have the best record here but I’ve just got to back him after last week’s excellent performance at Bay Hill. he’s won on the Nationwide Tour and this is a great chance for him to get off the mark on the main tour.

Rod Pampling is a shot in the dark, well, the fading light of dusk anyway.
I’m hoping he is inspired by the Aussie resurgence of recent weeks and he finished 10th here last year, plays the wind well and can hit form from nowhere. He can go MC, top 10, MC.
