The PGA Tour stays in Hawaii for the Sony Open at the Waialae Country Club, a shortish par 70 course featuring Bermudagrass greens.

We’ll be looking at players with good course form that went well last week who should be fully wound up for this, the first full PGA Tour event of 2015.

I’m sticking with Tim Clark despite just an average performance last week. The South African finished 2nd here in 2013 with a score of -21 when his overall form in that period was really poor, as was his form when he tied for 2nd here in 2011.

Russell Henley was the only player to beat Tim Clark in the 2013 renewal with rounds of 63, 63, 67 and 63 and a total of -24. He blew his chances with an opening round of 75 last year but he loves the Bermudagrass greens found here and looked in top form for the most part last week. His odds have tumbled but he’s just about still worth an investment at the current prices.

Sang Moon Bae was in contention for most of last week and his opening round of 63 here last year sticks in the memory. He is desperate to cement his place on the PGA Tour in an effort to avoid National Service in his home county of South Korea hence his motivation is high.

Brendon Todd is a player I expect to do well this year after making the breakthrough in 2014 with 7 top 10’s and a win at the Byron Nelson Championship.

In 2012 Todd missed 18 of 29 cuts yet still managed to tie for 13th here.

Our main pick last week Matt Kuchar was pretty disappointing but at his current odds i’ve got to put him in the staking plan this week.
