The European Tour comes to Australia this week in the form of the Vic Open at 13th Beach Golf Links, Barwon Heads, Victoria. It’s a 6,795 yard par 72 on the Beach course and 6,940 yard par 72 on the Creek course.
A two course event is not something we see very often at all on the European Tour but the thing that really makes this event stand out from the rest is that both the mens’ and womens’ tournaments will be played at the same time, in alternate groups.
This is an excellent idea and one that the European Tour should be congratulated on, as is the decision to get rid of the ropes and allow paying punters a bit more freedom to roam. I really hope it goes well and no-one has one too many VB’s over the weekend and makes a goose of themselves somehow.
As usual in Victoria wind will be the course’s main defence and we are backing two players we know can handle the breeze well.
Our first pick is Scott Hend who is definitely one of the class acts in the field and he knows how to get over the line with nine career wins. He caught the eye in a much stronger field last week in Saudi when finishing 6th, including a 63 in round 2.

We backed Jake McLeod at 1000 last week and he did himself proud to finish tied 34th. He is a fast starter who was tied 2nd after round 1 and although we are getting nothing like the silly odds of last week he’s shown his game is in good nick and the confidence that last week will have brought him could be huge in this significantly weaker field.
