No course form to go on this week at the Wells Fargo Championship which makes picking a long shot even more of a lottery than usual.
I’ve checked the Eagle Point out on the PGA Tour site and it’s tree lined, with plenty of water but the fairways look quite generous and it should suit long, straight drivers… but which course doesn’t? It looks absolutely beautiful and reports from the course have been comparing the greens to Augusta.
Our single pick this week is the big Swede Carl Pettersson. His form has been pretty dire for a while with missed cuts the norm but he finished 16th in his last start at the Texas Open which could have been a top 10 without a 74 in round 4.
That lone piece of form is not the main factor behind his selection, however. The main reason for big Carl gracing this column is that he is a course member here, and course record holder (62). If the reports of any similarities between the greens of Eagle Point and Augusta are true then he may have a big advantage over the field when it comes to reading the line and speeds of the greens.
