I’m concentrating hard on the National League (formerly the Conference) this season and while i’m going to wait a week or two before getting involved in any match bets I do think there is a little value to be had in the outright market.

The team I make value are Dover Athletic who can be backed at $67.

Dover were promoted to the Conference last season and made a solid start finishing 8th. They had the 4th best home record in the division and could have made the playoffs with only a slightly improved away record.

This season they’ve started with one win, two draws and a loss for a total of five points, one more than at this stage last season.

The stats suggest they could have won one or even two more matches and at this stage have had more shots, 67, than another team. Division favourites Grimsby have had the next highest at 56. At 36 they also top Grimsby (29) for the number of shots on target.

They had 18 shots in both their away games when they lost and drew which bodes very well for future success on their travels.

Their main threat is a striker called Stefan Payne, a 24yr old ex Fulham trainee, signed from  Ebbsfleet the season before last. He has two goals already this season to back up the 15 he got last season from 37 starts.

He’s being supported by Rick Miller who has had 14 shots on target already this season.

Dover have a relatively young side but it is one that will have learned that it can cope with the demands of this league from their solid performance last season.
