Bulldogs v Eels
These two teams met just over a month ago in what was a fairly ordinary game of rugby league. The history of these two sides is what brings them together in the NRL’s “Retro Round” and lets hope they can channel their forefathers from the 80’s to bring some life to the fixture.
The Bulldogs have won just 2 of their last 10 matches and their weaknesses in attack are largely to blame for this. The Eels find themselves on a rare hot-streak, winning their last 5 matches and on level points with 4th place.
The last time they met, the Eels blew a 12-0 first half lead with the Dogs drawing level late in the match, only for Parramatta to ice the game with a field goal in extra time. The Bulldogs were able to hold possession and limit their mistakes in that 2nd half, something they have struggled with all season. The Eels played poorly that time around and have since put in quality performances against better opposition.
Des Hasler has been under all sorts of pressure with recent performances, even though he has signed a 2-year extension on his contract. While the Dogs may just be playing for pride, there is a sense that Hasler’s job may be on the line and the players will be rallying behind their coach. With the inclement weather, this might all suit Canterbury.
I’m tipping the Dogs +5.5 @ 1.95
