The Dragons conclude Round 1 when they host the Melbourne Storm at Jubilee Oval on Monday night.
The Dragons have won their past 4 clashes at home with the Storm, but unfortunately not at this ground where they have lost their only 2 clashes.
They are also notoriously slow beginners, having won just 1 of their past 4 home Round 1 matches and 6 of 16 overall.
At the opposite end of the scale are Melbourne, who boast the best record of any team in Round 1 in the competition.
The Storm have won 5 of their past 6 Round 1 encounters and a remarkable 14/15 overall.
More impressively, Melbourne have not lost a Round 1 match since 2001, so it will be interesting to see if they can maintain this record here.
I don’t believe the Storm have the aura of past sides, however given their record it would be foolish to write them off.
The dragons have impressed me in pre-season, although they still have a way to go to get to the level of their opponents.
This shapes as a good match with the availability of Storm hooker Cam Smith being the deciding factor for me.
I’ll assume he plays so will side with the visitors here, but expect the home side to put in a spirited showing.
Verdict: Melbourne Win at $1.75 with
