Summary:

Big changes for the Pies going into 2014 with Dale Thomas and Heath Shaw moving on with Darren Jolly, Alan Didak and Andrew Krakouer having already packed their bags and Scott Pendlebury taking over as club captain from Nick Maxwell.

The positive stats suggest that Nathan Buckley has a very solid base to build on, being top 4 rated in kicks, handballs, disposals and marks but they really struggled in the ruck in 2013 and although 19 year old Brodie Grundy and 21 year old Jarrod Witts are both potential stars they cannot yet be expected to show the consistency needed to improve the Pies’ hit out stats enough for them to beat the top teams on a regular basis. It would have made more sense for Buckley to give Darren Jolly at least one more year at the club, as a back up ruckman if nothing else.

The Pies are going into this season with two ruckman who have a total of 14 AFL games between them. No. No. No. The best Pies fans can hope for is a barrel load of disposals from the tattooed tubster Dane Swan. He’s $5.0 with Ladbrokes for most disposals over the season.
