Norwich v BARNSLEY

So Norwich have finally sacked the manager who first marched them up to the Premier league, then back down again, and has left them barely halfway up. What that’ll do to their preparations for this one is anybody’s guess. They’ve been good at home, but Barnsley have been a more consistent outfit generally, and we take them to win this at $5

Fleetwood have served us well this season, but this is no place for loyalty. We take the improving Wombles to hold their own and nick this one. If they’re not unlucky or stupid, that could happen. $4 is the right side of the bargain

Millwall v BURY

Millwall’s recent defensive record is extraordinarily good; so much so that it would flatter any side. Bury are improved and focussed under new manager, Lee Clarke (who, incidentally, I always had as a duffer. That may yet prove right but he’s had an early impact of the right sort), and the $5.5 about them causing an upset is good value

There’s no doubt that Scunny have experienced the collywobbles since looking down from the summit, but gained a good win at home in the week, and are fancied to compound the turnaround away at an Oxford team that itself has suffered some fear and/or fatigue fade of late. $3.75 is a kind quote for the away side.

Southend v WALSALL

A late pick, this one. Southend manager Phil Brown claimed his players were “dishonest” in under-performing in a recent game against Bristol Rovers. (Suffice it to say they lost.) A lot of English managers talk of players’ honesty, and they don’t refer to feigning injury or cheating; they mean something else, which I’ve never been able to put my finger on. You can’t say too much at all when playing soccer, let alone tell fibs. If Southend’s players are any wiser than me in this then perhaps they’ll respond the right way today. Walsall are the bet at $3.8

LEAGUE 2

Grimsby v CRAWLEY at $4

Luton v EXETER at $3.5

Plymouth v MORECAMBE at $5.6
