Well we didn’t have our most auspicious of weeks last time. All sorts of shenanigans went on in those games. Preston should have done better for us at Sheffield Wednesday but two of their players fought and got sent off, and there were red cards elsewhere too. There’s no accounting for these events, and certainly no predicting. The best that we can hope for is that they go for and against us about equally over the piece. One regret though, is having Reading at Fulham and I’ve learned my lesson.

One thing that’s annoying, and that I’ll pay more attention to is the tendency of some teams to buckle early on against good opponents. We’ve suffered a few of these. Brentford are a good team, but have gone two nil down early on at Newcastle and Norwich, and not given themselves a chance. Let’s hope for a bit of resilience from among this fistful:

Brentford v BURTON

Burton manager, Nigel Clough, reckons his team has been unlucky on the road; seemingly punished at almost every opportunity – and he’s right. Their rate of goals to shots conceded is positively cruel. They create a fair bit at the other end too. While his opponent, Dean Smith, will expect a reaction from his Brentford side after their dire capitulation (to our cost) at Norwich last week, I’m taking Burton to merit a win at $3.85 with Screenshot 2014-05-03 13.10.10

Huddersfield v BRISTOL CITY

Recently, Huddersfield have generally continued to play well in achieving poor results, and it’ll be interesting to see how they proceed. City are pretty potent on the road, and will test the character of Huddersfield if they score. Take them to win it at $3.46 withScreenshot 2014-05-03 15.52.18

Blackburn are finding some cohesion under Owen Coyle, and resilience too. God knows they needed to, and they might just relish this derby more than Preston. Take them at $4.0 with Screenshot 2014-05-03 13.10.10

Bradford v CHARLTON

Charlton seem to have found their stride when attacking and should test Bradford, who have not been their usual efficient selves of late. Take Charlton to prevail at $4.2 with Screenshot 2014-05-03 13.10.10

Oxford v OLDHAM

Oldham were unlucky at excellent Scunthorpe recently, creating many chances in a game they lost narrowly. Oxford tend to concede a few shots at goal, so Oldham are attractive at $4.33 with Screenshot 2014-05-03 13.10.10
