It’s tempting to highlight how luck has slung us to the floor and ground our faces into the shit over these last two rounds of games, but I don’t mention the days when she drinks too much and shows us a good time – and she does – so we’ll let it be and move on. It’s probably easier for me than for you followers to remain philosophical when we have a bad spell as I’m the one making the decisions. Rest assured, the approach to picking bets is consistent. Of all our recent losers, there are at the most two that with hindsight we might have left alone. Anyway we’re still ahead, and trust to Lady Fortune to cast her favours about equitably. And she has a lot to do with the outcomes of football matches.
Blackburn v WIGAN
This basement scrap is of great importance to the survival prospects of these two sides, and they’ve both improved considerably in the last six weeks. It’s difficult to choose between them; less so when Wigan are offered at $3.48 with
Bristol City v BURTON
Burton have a shocking number of players injured, but they’ll be competitive against a Robins team that’s not got all its own key players for this one. Burton have held their own in most of their games this season, and could nick this. $4.05 with is a very generous quote.
Derby v BARNSLEY
Got to have Barnsley for this one, although I favour they’ll need more than one goal to do it. Derby are difficult to fathom. They play really well mostly, but struggle to win. So many players who have played under Steve McClaren say what a great coach he is. No doubt. Maybe he’s just less of a manager. Barnsley at $5.14 with
Sheffield Wednesday v NORWICH
Norwich are just about backable to prevail here. Their away record is appalling and they’ll have to be on their toes from the off in this one, as Wednesday go after teams at home. But the Canaries have goals in them and are gaining some traction as a team, while Wednesday have been slipping of late. Take Norwich at $3.34 with
