Jimmy Walker and Jason Day bring the best recent form into this week and with impressive course form at Pebble Beach to each of their names it’s easy to see why they head up the market. They are both trading at sub 10/1 however and for that reason alone they are passed over.

Dustin Johnson plays his best golf here and he’ll no doubt be popular on his second start back from his ban/break but a missed cut last week can be taken in two ways, either it’s blown the cobwebs off his game and he’ll be bang on for this or his game might take a few weeks to get up to a standard to compete. I favour the latter.

Jordan Spieth missed the cut last week when his driving wasn’t as good as it is normally but his record when backing up after a missed cut is encouraging. These are his finishing positions in the week following a MC on the PGA Tour.

T19 (including a 63), T2 (at the Masters), T22 (at the Barclays), T22 (here in 2013), T9, T32, 6 and 2 (lost in a playoff).

His odds are slightly inflated due to that missed cut and we’ll back him win only.

Patrick ‘Fat Pat’ Reed finished 7th on debut here in 2013 and backed that up with a 13th placed finish last year when he ranked inside the top 15 in driving distance, greens in regulation and putts per GIR.

He’s had a week off and this is a positive for me as he won the Hyundai Tournament of Champions after a break at the start of the year.

I’m sticking with Brandt Snedeker this week after his putting let him down a bit last week. He won this event in 2013 and remains very close to putting four good rounds together.

Spencer Levin contended for a long time last week and he appears to be maturing as a golfer.

His record here of 14, 46, 4, 9, mc reads well and he is worth a chance at a big price.

Theodore Ernest Els has, by my records, only played Pebble Beach once, in the 2010 USOPEN where he finished 3rd.

He has three top 25 finishes in his last four European Tour events and he seems to be enjoying his golf, and more importantly, his putting from inside 5 feet is going OK.

I have two first round leader bets to add when the market opens at approximately $81 in Aaron Baddeley and Bryce Molder. These will appear on the site when the odds are available.

EDIT: As it stands there is just one bookmaker up with 1st round leader odds and that is Palmerbet who are $61 each of the two selections. We should see better on each of the selections especially Molder who might get to $81.

We’ll go .5 units each way at the best odds we can find.
