Skeeter will be along with his outright preview tomorrow and i’m guessing Rory and Xander may feature strongly but with so many markets available and value jumping out of the screen we’ve got a host of bets in the sub markets to get stuck in to.
First up i’ve got some FIRST ROUND 3 ball bets with TAB that are too good to ignore. They are well above market price on the first two so hopefully the odds will last long enough for a few of you to get on.
Adam Scott to beat Molinari and De Chambeau at $3.25
Andrew Wilson to beat Fujimoto and Mun at $4.0
Stanley to beat Macintyre and Johnston at $3.1
1 unit on each of these and a 0.5 unit treble (all 3 to win – pays 39/1).
My big fancy to win the Open this year is Patrick Cantlay but with Rory and Jon Rahm looking like more likely winners to me than Koepka and Dustin the angle i’m keen on here is to back Cantlay to be top American and we’ll have 1.5 units top US on Cantlay at $14 with NEDS. I’m also going to chuck a speculative 0.5 units on Lucas Glover top US at $81 with TAB.
Glover can grind when the going gets tough, as his USOPEN win will attest to, and he’s in the best form since that time.
When searching for the winner of the Open Championship it’s not often anyone looks to the Qatar Masters on the European Tour in March but when I saw Mike Lorenzo – Vera brilliantly grind out a score during a sand storm in round three of that tournament I put his name into the mental notebook for whenever there is the possibility of high winds. Since then he’s had a T5 in China and T2 in Andalucia and notably a T9 in the Irish Open two weeks ago.
He has yet to win on the European Tour but has finished 2nd on five occasions since 2014 (see dictionary definition of French professional golfers).
We’re going for a scatter gun approach on the Frenchman here:
0.5 units each way 1st round leader at $126 with Sportsbet (1st 6 places 1/5 odds)
0.5 units each way top European at $96 with Sportsbet (1st 5 places 1/5 odds)
1 units each way top Continental European at $34 with Sportsbet (1st 4 places 1/5 odds)
4 units top Frenchman at $2.75 with Sportsbet.
Allez Mike et bon chance!
Predicting the top amateur is always a tricky one with far less meaningful data to go by than the regular tour players but there is often some value to be had if you are prepared to do a bit of digging. the player we are backing is young Englishman Curtis Knipes. He has not had the success of those at the top end of the market but in a 6 man field and with plenty of links golf experience bhind him he looks good value at $15 for 1 unit with Ladbrokes or Sportsbet.
