No Skeeter this week as he’s suffering with a chronic manflu so our deepest sympathy goes to his wife and five kids for the pain they are surely enduring in this saddest of times.

The Masters is done and not a lot more can be said about Jordan Spieth’s demise so I won’t add to what’s already been said a million times. I’m pleased for Danny Willet as a fellow Pom as he seems like a good bloke firstly and also because he led the Open last year for three rounds and also pushed Rory until the final day of the Race to Dubai. I couldn’t fancy him on only his second time at Augusta and I was not alone. He even said himself he thought he had no chance!

A few things to take out of the week:

  • The wind gives shorter hitters a chance. When Zach Johnson won he shot +1 in the wind and with Langer contending this time in the wind it’s something i’ll be bearing in mind in future years.

  • Hideki Matsuyama has the game to win a green jacket and so does Dustin Johnson who would have won the thing had he holed a few of his numerous lipped out putts. When he wins a Major he’ll kick on and win a few.

  • Matt Fitzpatrick – more on him below – had a brilliant week where he led GIR and showed that he could putt really well at Augusta. He’s already on the long list for 2017.

On to the RBC Heritage in its usual post – Masters spot.  ermuda grass greens are the main feature here so you see strong course players contending year after year.

I like three players who all went well without ever really looking like winning last week.

Paul Casey – yes, there’s something really grating about his grinning fool act and John Niven, a brilliant author (@NivenJ1) put it well on Twitter last week when he said ” I struggle a bit with Paul Casey because of his crazed semi-Oakenfold pus”- is in great form and has finished in the top 22 in his three appearances here and looks set to contend.

Brandt Snedeker won here in 2011 and impressed me at Augusta. He’s a streaky player and i’ll be surprised if he’s not there or thereabouts over the next few weeks.

Matt Fitzpatrick said that this was his favourite golf course and this along with his superb iron play and putting last week is a good reason to think he could break his duck on the PGA Tour at Harbour Town Golf Links on Sunday.
