The European Tour wings its way to Asia this week for the China Open and there are a couple of players crying out to be backed on this wide open par 72 where driving distance and scoring on the par 5’s will be paramount.
First up I like Julian Suri to get off the mark for 2019 after knocking on the door in the 3 events he’s teed it up at. He’s 2nd fav behind Hao Tong Lee who may struggle to overcome the pressure from the home crowd despite being the best player in the field.
American Suri has added 18 yards to his average drives since 2017 and as long as he has his putter working he should score well on the par 5’s and be in contention come Sunday.
Pretty much all of the above can also be said of Spaniard Adri Arnaus as in he’s long off the tee and should relish the extra par 5’s the par 72 course has to offer. He won on the Challenge Tour in 2018 to get his European Tour card and looked like a winner waiting to happen in the desert and again when runner up in Kenya.
He has missed his last two cuts but that means we are getting more than twice the odds than a few weeks ago on a track that should suit him better.
